It's 2023. You want to create your net zero strategy but where on Earth do you start?

In short, here are a few steps you can take to get moving:

1 - Identify obvious opportunities to reduce your impact

In the same way that you don’t need to track your calories to know that after a workout, you’re likely to have burnt some.

You don’t need a net zero strategy or carbon footprint to be confident in the fact that cycling to work, providing vegetarian or vegan meals, eliminating single-use plastic or switching to a renewable supplier, are all actions you can take today to move forwards.

"Actions speak louder than words"

2 - Conduct a carbon footprint on your business operations

This will help you identify where most of your emissions are coming from and where you can focus your energy, attention and investment to reduce them. How do you figure out your carbon footprint? I hear you wonder…

Well, there are several options. You could work with one of our specialist freelancers who would provide a bespoke carbon footprint for your company, among many other benefits.

Or there are also online tools and platforms which enable you to measure your emissions. Check out our toolbox to find some of them.

3 - Set a SMART 2.0 Net Zero Goal

Set a net zero goal and timeline. Your goal should be specific, measurable, ambitious, results-orientated and time-bound. Do not bother with setting anything you deem to be realistic or achievable; after all, what is realistic or achievable beyond what we can already do? We are in a race to net zero, not a slow jog.

Be bold, be ambitious.

4 - Communicate your net zero strategy to your stakeholders

Engage the hearts and minds of your employees, customers, and other stakeholders, while involving them in your efforts to achieve your goal. The key to doing this effectively and avoiding greenwashing is to be totally honest, transparent and authentic in your approach. If you try to 🐂 💩 people, they will sniff it out.

Be Honest, authentic and transparent, and you’ll successfully engage people so they actively want to help you.

Final thoughts

By following these steps and continuously striving to improve your sustainability, you can create a net zero strategy to help your company reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, become part of the solution and develop an even better world that's more regenerative and socially equitable.

And remember. We are always here to provide a helping hand, guide you in the right direction and connect you to the right people or tools just when you need them.
